The Energy Systems Engineering program has partnered with DTE Energy for education and training of ESE students on power generation using renewable energy and low-emission fossil fuel technologies, and management of the power grid transmission and distribution system. DTE executives are frequent visitors to the ESE classroom and present in-depth discussions of the company's activities across a broad spectrum of the energy sector, including wind and solar power; nuclear energy; biomass energy and co-fired generation; coal services; environmental control of coal-fired emissions; landfill gas recovery; combined heat and power for industrial clients; integrated resource planning; demand-side management; energy project economics and finance; and energy policy and development of renewable portfolio standards. ESE students work as summer interns at DTE corporate offices in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan to obtain first-hand experience on energy project development and the management of grid infrastructure and generating assets at the nation's ninth largest utility.
